Up until 2002, animals were kept in many foster homes across the county until new homes were found. Since that time, a small shelter has been opened, but foster homes are still used. All the animals in the care of SBCHA have been examined by a licensed veterinarian, are up-to-date on vaccinations and all have been spayed or neutered that are at the appropriate age. SBCHA is totally separate from the Shelbyville Animal Control run by the city and the Bedford County Animal Control run by the county. However, these agencies try to work together for the well being of the animals. SBCHA does not send any funds donated to any other agencies. All monies donated are used for SBCHA exclusively.
