YOU CAN HELP

There are many ways you can help SBCHA.

1. Become a volunteer: Volunteers are always needed in many various areas. If you are interested in helping with adoptions, building maintenance, pet education, public relations, fundraising, record keeping, spay/neuter, shelter duties or fostering animals call SBCHA at 684-Kind or e-mail sbcha@hotmail.com.

2. Become a foster home: Because our space is limited at the shelter, SBCHA still relies on foster homes to lend a helping hand. These homes have been invaluable over the years and have helped countless numbers of animals from a probability of suffering a terrible fate.

Stories of foster homes:
1. Fostering for SBCHA has given us a lot of pleasure. It’s nice to be able to make a difference. My husband and I have only gotten started fostering, (We have 3 big dogs of our own.) but have had two big successes so far. Read about one of the stories in the Happy Endings section of the website. Bingo was fostered at our home for about four months until there was room for him at the shelter. At first, he was very, very shy. We helped him to trust people, to be able to walk on a leash and the beginnings to sit on command. He is very smart and now he is in the perfect home with others to play with and the best owners. His story is a great success. We have place Nellie, Penny and GiGi in good homes this year. Their stories can be found on the Happy Tales page of this website. We are now fostering more for SBCHA. Please see them at the petfinder link at this website. They are Buddy, Neo, Trinity, Mezzi and Purdy.

2. Hi, we are three of the many animals in foster care with SBCHA. We would like to tell you a little about our foster home. Our foster parents are Carolyn and Frank Fisher who have 6 grandchildren. Cara, 6, lives with us. Haylee, 11, Chelsey, 9, and Katie, 1, live next door. Peyton, 8, and Megan, 11, live out of state. So, you see, we always have kids to play with and help us learn how to behave around children. Mom and Dad have fostered for about 13 years. There have been hundreds of us come through these doors over the years. Mom says it is the most rewarding thing she has ever done. We can't say it is always an easy job for them. We take lots of time and energy and love. Sometimes they get their hearts broken when things don't work out the way they hoped, but then when they look into the eyes of an innocent and trusting animal and see the love we have to offer and find that perfect person that we belong with, Mom and Dad say it is the most beautiful thing. They say if you have some extra space and plenty of love to spare you will receive an abundance of rewards if you too would decide to become a foster home. Remember, without foster homes a lot of us would not have the chance to find a forever home. Bindi, Bandit and Mator

Goodsearch:

Search the web with http://www.goodsearch.com/and money from Yahoo advertisers will go to SBCHA without you spending a dime! GoodSearch is a search engine which donates 50-percent of its revenue to the charities and schools designated by its users. It's a simple and compelling concept. You use GoodSearch exactly as you would any other search engine. Because it’s powered by Yahoo!, you get proven search results. The money GoodSearch donates to your cause comes from its advertisers — the users and the organizations do not spend a dime! Every time you search the internet SBCA will receive one penny. This doesn’t seem like a lot, but if 100 people searched twice daily using GoodSearch in a year’s time SBCHA would receive $730, with 1000 people searching twice a day it would generate about $7300 yearly.

Go to http://www.goodsearch.com/and verify SBCHA as your cause by entering Shelbyville-Bedford County Humane Association.

Recycle and earn money for SBCHA. Shelbyville Recycled Paper will accept mixed paper, newspaper, clear plastic bottles and clear milk jugs and give the proceeds to SBCHA. Not only does this help the animals, but it also helps the environment. For more information contact Diane Forbes at Shelbyville Recycled Paper  (931) 684-3738.
